Nikko Oliver Villanueva

Nikko Oliver Villanueva is a choral conductor, composer, and arranger currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of the Philippines College of Music. He is known for his compositions that possess emotional depth and rich choral textures.

 

His accolades include the Grand Prize at the 2023 Junior Philippine Conductor’s Association Conducting Competition, Honorable Mention in 2024, and Best Arrangement of a Filipino Song in the same year. He was also a winner of the 2015 Alay Awit Kay Maria (Song for Mary) Songwriting Competition.

 

Among his notable works, Sa Ganitong Panahon Din (In Very Similar Time) was premiered by the Philippine Madrigal Singers, while his sacred compositions include Take Away the Rest: Mass of St. John Bosco, published in 2016, and Acclamation, Oblation, Veneration: A cappella Mass, dedicated to Andrea O. Veneracion, Philippine National Artist for Music.

 

He also studied songwriting and harmony under Philippine National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab and holds a degree in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

 

Currently, he serves as the resident composer, arranger, and assistant choirmaster of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, as well as the Musical Director and Resident Composer of the St. John Bosco Parish. Beyond his work as a conductor and composer, he also serves as the Festival Manager for the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival Manila.
